I have heard all the earlier generation people admiring about this movie, so, I decided to check this movie out myself.

“It’s not the years in your life, but the life in your years that count.” – Abraham Lincoln had said. The movie, "Anand" encapsulates this message as the character lives his last days with joy.

Only if I was refrained to write an essay about this movie, and rather few lines it would be- Amazing and probably one of the greatest classics! Rajesh sir, as well as Amitabh Bachchan, act marvelously!! Poetic songs, well-developed characters, great direction, excellent screenplay, and dialogues of substance, take the audience to their own ecstacy.

Despite knowing fully well that he is going to die in a few months, Anand is ever-smiling and tries to make people around him happy, because he believes in making new friends and enjoying life to the fullest.

Anand Sehgal (Rajesh Khanna) arrives in Mumbai to get treated for his lymph sarcoma of the intestine. He then befriends Prakash’s colleague, Dr. Bhaskar Bannerjee (Amitabh) and tries to bring happiness in his life. Anand decides to stay with Bhaskar instead of getting admitted in Dr. Prakash’s nursing home. Bhaskar is a no nonsense character who treats his patients with utmost seriousness and treats his life also in a similar way.

Watch out for the scene where Johnny Walker comes to meet Anand for the last time and could not control his tears when Anand says that God has not given him any more dialogues to speak. Walker comes out crying inconsolably and I bet most of the viewers can not hold back their tears in this scene.

The climax scene is the ultimate one and one of the best scenes to have been shot in Indian cinema. Anand in the end passes away with Bhaskar dashing to get some homeopathy medicine expecting for a miracle and Bhaskar could not tolerate this. Bhaskar pens down a book in his memory and sums up everything in one line “Anand Mara nahin, Anand marte nahin”.

"BaaabuMushaai", the nickname for Amitabh, as perceived from Rajesh during the course of the movie, will loop in your ears even hours after you have seen the six letters "The End" on the screen.

IMDb-8.8; 12 March 1971 (India)

Simply put, this is one of the best Hindi movies ever made.
